Helicopters, Skyscrapers and Sunsets

For the longest time I've wanted to do a helicopter tour of New York City. About a month ago my mom gave me the book "Air" and it only made me want to fly around the city even more. On Monday night I logged into Facebook to see that my friend James had an extra seat on a helicopter he chartered to do some video, so obviously I jumped on the opportunity. 20 hours later I was on the Tarmac with our friends at FlyNYON just before sunset getting ready to take off.

James obviously told them to take all of the doors off of the helicopter in order for us to get the best possible shots (so cool). After watching the safety video and telling us that literally everything (including ourselves) needed to be strapped in so that we didn't kill anyone on the streets below, we chose seats. Since nobody else really wanted the "daredevil seat" (sitting on the floor with your legs dangling out the side) I jumped on it. We loaded up our cameras, harnessed in, headed out to the doorless chopper, and took off to head towards the NYC skyline.

Flying over New York City and seeing all of the buildings from above was an unbelievable experience. I would recommend it to anyone looking to do something unforgettable. Dangling my feet out the side was a bit scary, but exhilarating nonetheless and allowed me to capture some of the best photos I have ever taken. All of these, and those in this album, were taken at extremely high resolution and are great for large wall prints. Feel free to email me at harrison@hiephoto.com if you would like to order one!
